GOLF ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

5 May 2011

1.  Meeting was called to order at 3:00 pm. Present were Dennis Igoe, Bob Mazzei, Paul Squeri, Tom Lewis, Monica DeCicco, Ann Miles, Bill McCrain and Joe Jacangelo from the BOD, and Head Pro Jeff Bebbino.

2.  RSF from resident, Joe Garaffa, dated 17 June 2010, was discussed.  No current GAC member had knowledge of the request for transfer of membership to his spouse.  Bill McCrain will address.  Two recent RSFs, concerning cart safety issues were addressed by Dennis

3.  General discussion of the last community golf meeting with agreement that few and no serious complaints/issues arose.  Instructions on more effective use of the microphone and request for attendees to move to the front seats would help solve the communication problem. Next community meeting is 29 June.

4.  Jeff reported that the course is beginning to produce root zones below the thatch and the turf is gradually responding to the superintendent’s efforts.

5.  There will be an ad hoc GAC Finance Committee meeting with the Greenbriar Finance Committee in two weeks to discuss fee schedule for next year.

6.  Entire GAC and the Head Pro agreed that play should start on the current #10, especially if the planned snack bar opening of 24 May is to be successful.  Jeff suggested that players start on #10 Tuesday through Friday and on #1 on weekends and will discuss the date to begin with Mike.  Planned snack bar will offer an assortment of food and drink from 7 am until mid-afternoon and will be open to all residents as well as golfers.  Cell phone with posted number suggested so players can call in from the course to order.  Facilities Committee will be tasked with providing an ice machine.

7.  The issue of cancellations on League days was discussed with Jeff noting that 50 of 75 women signed up for Thursday play had cancelled last week causing underutilization of the course at peak times with loss of revenue.  Bob will coordinate with Roger Zucchino from OMGA and Ann with Diane Agamie from OWGA concerning a plan to charge non-refundable $7 tournament fee in advance of league day play. The prepay rule would not be in effect on CPO days.

8.  There is presently no affordable or feasible area to create a chipping area on the practice range and the putting green presents possible danger to other golfers and residents using the pool. An area behind the sand trap is a possibility and Jeff will explore with Mike.

9.  Jeff reported on employee issues: plan to rotate pro shop personnel outside as starters, etc, resignation of 5 employees who could not adapt to corporate vision.

10.  Two residents suggested use of punch cards for guest rounds which would be non-transferable, non-refundable, good for one season only, and available only to full members.  GAC agreed that we should start this next year with five $75 rounds for the price of four (or any multiple thereof) with payment due by 1 March.

11.  Family and Guests Days were agreed to be on one Sunday morning per month in June through September. Members may sign up in advance for any single time.  If additional times are requested, sign up is permitted only one week in advance of the second and subsequent requests.  This will be a pilot program and Bill and Joe will review the prospectus for play.

12.  HCP flags have been issued to approximately 20 persons.  On CPO days, no HCP flags will be issued as all players must remain on the CP.

13.  Discussion of fee schedule for next year with various plans presented: decreasing the household membership discount; placing restrictions on time of play for second household member; offering weekend and twilight rates to increase play during underutilized times; allowing a set number of rounds/year for the membership fee and adding a surcharge after that number of rounds.

14.  OWGA asked the GAC for advice regarding a member who plays 9 holes with a lower HCP and will not move up to the 18 hole group.  GAC advised that OWGA is within its rights to add a rule mandating that only players above a certain HCP may continue to play for prize money in the 9 hole group.

Meeting was adjourned at 6 pm.
