GOLF ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
July 7, 2011
The meeting was called to order at 3:00 pm. Present were Dennis Igoe, Bob Mazzei, Ann Miles, Tom Lewis, Steve Naples, Monica DeCicco, Paul Squeri, Jim Inzalaco from the Greens Committee, Bill McCrain and Joe Jacangelo from the BOD, Superintendent Mike Tardogno, and Director of Golf Jeff Bebbino.
Director of Golf Report:
- 4,350 rounds of golf were played in June 2011
- Pace of Play remains acceptable
- Ball bin on practice range has been moved to lower level for safety reasons
- Golf ball supply for practice range will need to be augmented. Balls cannot be retrieved from the woods due to tick infestation.
- A chipping practice area has been identified and will be considered for construction in the Fall if budget permits
- Staffing man hours are twice what had been projected, especially with rangers
- Need seen for approximately 15 additional lease carts (Steve will be contact point for information)
- Due to course conditions, Winter Rules (move ball within a club length, no closer to the hole, with ball hit in the fairway only) will be in effect for tournaments
Superintendent’s Report:
- Awaiting soil test results on #14 and other areas of concern
- Members should be advised that more hand watering and syringing will occur during play and workers will be on the course.
New Business:
- HCP sub-committee reported significant numbers of members were failing to post scores after play. GAC decided that a blast e-mail would be sent to the membership and notice posted in the Pro Shop warning that, as of 1 August after a review of July play history, there would be consequences for those members failing to post scores. Ann and Paul will monitor.
- Steve will investigate solar powered golf cart issue
- Four member infraction issues were addressed and voted on by full Committee.
- Four Trail Fee/Membership Fee issues were addressed:
- New resident purchasing a home and cart from another resident who is moving must pay his/her own trail fee. Trail Fee does not transfer as it is linked to the owner and not to the house.
- Cart Fees will not be pro-rated.
- An Associate moving to Full Membership will incur fees as stated in the Rules and Regulations
- Members requesting refund addressed
- Jim Inzalaco reviewed general guidance from the state DEP and the Pinelands Commission regarding development/construction in the Pine Barrens.
- Bob and Tom reported on the unfair advantage given to those teams with women members in the 4th of July Tournament. Suggestions for improvement next year included flighting the Tournament, increasing the number of needed tee shots per player, and having the women tee from Red and Green and the men from White and Blue.
- Monica reported that the Snack Bar, while advertising itself open from 7 – 3 on Saturday, 2 July, was actually closed because of a pool party leaving golfers without food and beverage service. Bill will address.
Old Business:
- Bill reminded that Capital Expenditure requests must be very specific as to cost, location, date, extent of work, etc. with the warning that very few expenditures are likely to be approved this year.
- Chipping area and poles for practice range remain the main Capital requests for this year
- General discussion of pros and cons of several new membership Fee Schedules to be further discussed with the Finance Committee and the BOD.
Meeting was adjourned at 5:15 pm.
